Vintage Framed Marjorie Sharpe Original Signed Oil Painting Art FRUIT Still Life

Original vintage still life painting on canvas, signed Marjorie Sharpe (undated), framed in a gilted gold wooden frame.

Marjorie Sharpe is a California artist, the daughter of listed artist Marian Barnett, who is known for her paintings of roses. This is a unique piece among Sharpe's roses and coastal seascapes. The painting features a fruit still life with bananas, grapes, apples, and a guava over a green background.

Measurements: 15.5" Width x 7.75" Height x 1.5" Depth

"Marjorie's natural talents (painting and music) were carefully tutored from her earliest years by her famed artist mother, Marian Barnett (1913-1978); at the age of 11 she was advanced enough to study at the San Diego Fine Arts Gallery. Concurrently, she was becoming an accomplished pianist.

Later, attending La Jolla High School, the University of Washington and Cal Poly (San Luis Obispo), Marjorie won various awards, a scholarship in painting and obtained a California State Teacher's Credential for both art and music. Travel in Europe and two years with the Army Special Services in Northern Bavaria helped to polish her art techniques and understanding to a fine point.

She studied with such internationally-known artists as Leon Franks and Bennett Bradbury..." according to the now-closed Pomeroy Art Gallery in Cypress, California. - Info courtesy of Claudette's Vintage

Vintage Hand Painted Cubist Abstract Joan Miro Tile

Vintage 7.75" x 7.75" painted ceramic tile with an abstract cubist eye, signed "Miro".

White background with black speckles. The eye and signature are outlined in black and colored in green, blue, yellow, and red.

This is a great bold piece for a small space.

There is a hook on the back for hanging. The tile was made in Spain.

"Joan Miró was a central figure to the 20th-century avant-garde. The Spanish artist’s innovative use of line, organic shapes, and color is seen to represent a major tenet of Surrealist art: to make work that liberates the creative potential of one’s unconscious mind. His playful imagery and linear markings bring out the fantastical in his abstract paintings.

Also a sculptor and collagist, Miró’s influenced much of post-war art, including Abstract Expressionism and Robert Rauschenberg's work. A move to Paris in 1920 brought the artist into Surrealist circles, befriending André Breton and working with Max Ernst, Jean Arp, and André Masson.

Born Joan Miró i Ferrà on April 20, 1893 in Barcelona, Spain, the artist has had several major retrospectives since his first in 1941 at The Museum of Modern Art in New York, before and after his death in Palm, Mallorca, Spain on December, 25, 1983 at the age of 90. He has been the recipient of the Venice Biennale Grand Prix in 1954 and was awarded the Spanish Gold Medal of Fine Arts in 1980." ~ Artnet.com

The top corners of the tile are scraped. The tile is signed "Miró" in the style of artist Joan Miró. The style of the piece is akin to Miró's work, though his work is often replicated by other artists. This piece is undated, and has no COA. Please take all of this information into consideration before purchasing.
